They have been driven by a desire to honor those who came before them, including some who had more of a behind-the-scenes impact, while broadening that legacy by adding new breakthroughs and achievements.
As Paulo, who is now President and CEO, described, women have been at the heart of Jason International in several ways. “Women are the strongest members of an Italian family,” described Paulo. “So much has been written about the accomplishments of the Jacuzzi
men. But really, when you look back over the family’s history, it was often the women in their lives who were behind those innovations even though they are not typically credited. The women had many of the ideas and drove the men to implement them and be better servants of their industries.
“For example, it’s been well-documented that the rst home hydrotherapy bath was created
by the Jacuzzi brothers to provide desperately needed relief to Candido Jacuzzi’s young son Kenneth. He suffered from extremely painful juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and the only
relief he experienced was during monthly hydrotherapy treatment sessions at a hospital.
It was actually Candido’s wife who pushed her husband and his brothers to nd a solution. She basically told them, ‘If you can build a pump that irrigates some farming elds, you can build one that will pump the water in my bathtub.’”
Candido began working with the company’s engineers to build a product that could offer similar treatment at home, providing more frequent relief. Jacuzzi Bros. came up with
a prototype, obtained a patent, and by the mid-1950s, was producing the J-300 portable home hydrotherapy units. They were marketed to hospitals and schools, and distributed through bath supply stores. With early celebrity endorsements like Jayne Mans eld, Randolph
Scott and Jack Benny, Jacuzzi became the “household name” for jetted tubs.
The Jacuzzi’s self-contained, fully integrated whirlpool baths became a talked-about home luxury item. Their popularly became obvious as new generations of consumers took a greater interest in health and wellness, and began splurging on upgrades like these for their homes. And decades later, despite other brands and types of hydrotherapy entering the market, Jacuzzi is still viewed as “the original” and is often used interchangeably by consumers when referring to jetted tubs.
DEDICATION TO THEIR VISION
Formed in 1982 by Paulo’s father Remo C. Jacuzzi, Jason International has been a source of pride and dedication to their family ever since.
“My father invited family members who wanted to carry on the vision of ‘Better Living Through Bathing’ to found Jason,” Paulo recalled. “All of our shareholders are Jacuzzi family members. We have remained committed to the values and philosophies on which we were founded. We are continually exploring the research and development of innovative bathing products that will enrich users’ health and well-being while being ergonomically designed for maximum comfort.”
