DEEP ROOTS
Weinstein describes himself as “a third generation plumbing industry veteran” whose grandfather owned the rst multi-branch supply house in Philadelphia and dad was a manufacturers’ rep. Both John and his brother Hal got their start in the business working for their dad.
Along the way, and through a myriad of circumstances, Weinstein got involved in another of his passions — costume design. “A family member owned one of the biggest costume companies in the country. I bought it from him in 1983 and we manufactured costumes for all kinds of occasions. It was a great business to be in. After 10 successful years I decided to sell the business and get back into the plumbing industry in 1993.”
Over the next decade, Weinstein got heavily
involved in the showroom business working for two wholesalers in the Philadelphia area; he even got experience creating and opening a new showroom presence for one of them.
“I really enjoyed that process, but decided that I’d like to have more control over charting my course,” he described. “I formed a rep agency called Weinstein Group in 2002. I was fortunate to get some very big names in luxury plumbing right out of the gate. It turned out to be a very fruitful venture.”
In 2013 the Xylem name was sold to ITT and John took a position with his brother to form
a new entity, Xync Brands and the Ryvyr
brand of bath furniture and xtures. Following the brands’ emergence into the decorative plumbing showrooms the company was soon acquired by Elk Group International where John became VP of the Ryvyr brand.
